Sochi to host Formula One spectacular for Russian fans
Russian fans will get a taste of Formula One racing in July when the Renault and Virgin teams take to the streets as part of a promotional event in Sochi. The Black Sea resort is set to host the F1 calendar’s first Russian round in 2014.
The demonstration event will take place on a temporary circuit built around Sochi’s city centre. It has been organised by the Krasnodar region’s motorsport federation with the support of Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister – and head of the Russian race’s organising committee – Dmitry Kozak, and Alexander Tkachev, Governor of the Krasnodar region.
Both Renault and Virgin have unique relationships with Russia. Renault currently field Formula One’s first and only Russian driver in Vitaly Petrov, while Virgin are part owned by Russian sports car makers Marussia Motors.
As well as being a rare chance for Russian fans to experience the sight and sound of a Formula One car being put through its paces, fans attending the demonstration will be wowed by famous participants from other motorsport series, including seven-time Paris-Dakar rally winners the Kamaz Master team.
The Sochi event will take pace on July 17.
